Hans and his wife Ginger have lived in Decatur since 2008 and have four kids in Decatur schools. He was elected to serve on the City Schools of Decatur Board of Education in 2021. Hans is a veteran of the US Army and a Decatur-based entrepreneur who invented a medical device to save lives and help nurses in the ICU.
