DEF Community Spotlight on Jonah Goode

Mr. Goode isn’t just a well-known CSD teacher who has taught at F.AVE and Beacon Hill Middle School – he is also one of the founders of The Grocery Spot (TGS), a local nonprofit organization dedicated to improving food access and fighting for food justice. Through TGS, Mr. Goode has been providing snacks for the student centers at Decatur High School and Beacon Hill Middle School. In addition, he is partnering with the district’s McKenny Vento coordinators to provide groceries to food insecure families in Decatur.

Decatur High School counselor Kim Evans has seen firsthand the positive outcomes of the TGS donations. She said, “You have no idea how much this has helped our students. Just today we were able to provide breakfast for three kids who hadn’t eaten. DEF and Mr. Goode are saving the day and the school year!”

If you would like to help The Grocery Spot in their quest to improve food access to all who need it, there are opportunities to donate, volunteer and help promote their cause. Visit www.thegroceryspot.org and follow their social networks on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. Thank you, Mr. Goode, for all the GOOD that you do in City Schools of Decatur!
