Electrifying Learning

DHS Chemistry teacher Dahlya Lusk, understands the importance of hands-on demonstrations in teaching scientific concepts. With the help of a grant from the DEF, she was able to purchase an electrolysis demonstration apparatus and a water distiller. With electrolysis equipment, students can conduct experiments that will help them better understand the process of electrolysis, or the breakdown of water molecules using electrical currents. The water distiller will provide the biology and chemistry teams with a ready supply of distilled water, which is needed for student labs and teacher demos. Experiments are an important part of inquiry-based learning, and this new equipment will allow students to deepen their understanding of chemistry and the interaction between atoms and molecules.
