Anti-racism Education at RMS

Decatur Education Foundation partnered with Renfroe Middle School and retired Georgia State University professor Pearl McHaney to purchase copies of Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism and You by young adult author Jason Reynolds for every seventh grader, seventh grade teacher, and administrator at Renfroe Middle School. Tailored toward young adult readers, Stamped is a remix of Ibram X. Kendi’s adult book Stamped from the Beginning: The History of Racism in America. As our community deals with the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be working with our partners to identify additional needs that our families may have.  Your donation to Lighten the Load will help us remain flexible to meet the needs as situations change.  You can also complete a form if you know of a student or family who needs assistance OR your family needs assistance.

Step Up For Teachers!

It’s time to Step Up for Teachers! Now more than ever, our teachers are working their hardest in difficult circumstances to teach our kids. Show them how much you appreciate them with a personal tribute (either written or video!) and a yard sign.

DEF is currently seeking a full-time Program Coordinator! The ideal candidate is a dynamic, organized self-starter with excellent oral and written skills who will help coordinate the Foundation’s programs. This flexible individual must be able to interact professionally with a diverse constituent base. Preference given to those experienced in managing volunteers, and experience in mentoring, database management and social media a plus. Tour deCatur Time

Join us for the 18th running of the Tour deCatur – our city’s largest road race!  This year we celebrate another Pi Day (3.14) race and will once again provide an opportunity for our younger students to win a chance to “pie” their favorite teachers at the Tour deCatur Expo.  Join close to 3000 friends and neighbors at this fun event that includes a 1-mile fun run and the adorable Tot Trot.
