Funds to support learning activities that promote global understanding and awareness.
HONNIKER Emergency ASSISTANCE
These funds are available to support the work of CSD social workers who identify one-time, limited support for families who are in need of immediate financial assistance for food, clothing, medicine, eye glasses, utility bills and/or any basic need that might affect a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school.
BOOK FAIR BUCKS
Funds administered through media centers to insure that all elementary students, regardless of income, can purchase new books at their school book fairs.
Funds raised through the Mead Road Mardi Gras event provide grants for music education at schools across the city.
TEACHER INNOVATION GRANTS
Provides support of up to $1,500 to help teachers try innovative methods and projects.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Provides a full year of tuition for a child in the one-year old class at College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center.
DEF partners with City Schools of Decatur to provide laptops and training for families in order to close the digital divide and ensure that all families can support student learning at home.
MARY MILLER DECATUR YOUTH FUND
DEF partners with City of Decatur to administer the Mary Miller Decatur Youth Fund, which provides scholarships to help children and youth participate in after-school programs, summer school, summer camps and other enrichment opportunities.
DEF has partnered with the Decatur Housing Authority (DHA) to establish a mentoring program that pairs third graders from the DHA community with adult volunteers. The goal of the program is to close the opportunity gap which results in some students having fewer opportunities during their formative years. Mentors will help connect their students connect with educational and enrichment opportunities so they can explore their interests, find their passions, and develop useful life skills. Partnership for Career achievement
The Partnership for Career Achievement (PCA) is a joint effort between DEF and Decatur High School to help students who are interested in vocational/trade programs to gain the training necessary to provide them with solid job prospects. The program pairs each student with a community advocate who will help the student navigate through their senior year and subsequent training programs. Seniors who successfully complete the program requirements will be eligible for scholarship awards to cover the cost of their chosen training program as well as associated costs. DEF partners with City Schools of Decatur as the funding partner for REACH GA – a state-wide, needs-based mentorship and scholarship program, which opens the door to post-secondary opportunities for Georgia’s academically promising students.
DEF acts as the fiscal agent for the Decatur High Robotics teams and also provides support to teams at Renfroe and the 4/5 Academy.
DEF SPONSORSHIP OF DECATUR BOOK FESTIVAL FIELD TRIPS
DEF is a proud sponsor of the children’s programming of the Decatur Book Festival, which allows students at all grade levels to interact with authors, illustrators or storytellers on the Friday before the festival opens to the public.
