FOCUS Prep Program is a new mentoring program to assist high school students with their post-secondary plans. We are pairing adult “coaches” with 9th-12th graders to help them FOCUS: Finding Opportunities to Create Ur Success. These “Focus Coaches” will be trained through the College Ave Consulting Program to assist their students in taking the next steps past high school and will commit to 2-3 hours per month for the 2022-2023 school year. The coaches’ presence and guidance will help eliminate the anxiety and uncertainty a lot of students feel about taking steps towards their future. Your time and previous "real world experience" will be useful in helping a fellow Bulldog to meet their post-secondary goals. To sign up, click here.

| William "Bill" Hixson Green, Decatur Boys School Class of 1944
Bill was born in Atlanta on June 4, 1926 and graduated from Decatur Boys' School in 1944. He served in the war, then returned to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech where he earned a degree in architecture.
He loved the city of Decatur and served over 20 years as a commissioner. For decades he was an active member of the Decatur Rotary club and the Decatur Elks Club. He was a lifetime member of Decatur Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. To read more about Bill, click here. |

| Emma Soorikian, DHS Class of 2019
Emma was a beautiful soul who grew up in Decatur and adored working with children throughout her life. To read more about her beautiful life and spirit, click here.
Her family created Emma's Fund to provide grants for kids to attend programs like Camp Scene which was where she worked and a place that brought her joy. To make a gift in honor of Emma's life, click here.

| William "Bill" Funk, DHS Assistant Principal/Principal
William "Bill" Joseph Funk, a founding board member of DEF passed away on August 28, 2022. Bill worked as an assistant principal and principal at Decatur High School for 27 years from 1971 to 1998. He cared deeply for his community. Besides helping establish DEF, he was also an active member of the Decatur Rotary Club and the First Decatur United Methodist Church. During his board service at DEF, he established the Bill Funk Fund which provided high school students with international experiences. To read his full obituary, click: https://lnkd.in/gW3r8uXR

| 2022 DHS ATHLETICS NEWS Football DHS Senior and wide receiver Kenric Lanier has been selected to play in the 23rd edition of the All American Bowl in San Antonio, TX on January 7, 2023. He has also committed to play for Vanderbilt University. Baseball
Three senior DHS baseball players have recently committed to colleges: Keenan Nelms has committed to Limestone University, Noah McMahon is heading to Wofford, and Paul Gaeta is going to Oglethorpe. Congratulations and good luck to these incredible athletes!
Gymnastics! For the first time ever, Decatur High School and Beacon Hill Middle School will be fielding a gymnastics team in the spring of 2023. GO BULLDOGS!!! |
