From the Bank Board Room, where banking and finance rules were covered, to making the first deposit into the 2012 Bulldog Account, 14 Decatur High School Seniors are getting the opportunity to receive the “full senior experience” with help from a DEF mini-grant. In return for setting a budget, making monthly deposits, taking a class on banking, finance and contracts, each student will receive incentive money to help subsidize their senior expenses which include the Prom, yearbook and cap and gown.
As students stood in line to make their first deposit, Graduation Coach, Iris Gibbons, stated “it was like watching someone in line for his/her first roller coaster ride….both scared and excited at the same time!”. Almost all had never made a deposit of their own and most had never been inside a banking institution. The 2012 Bulldog Account Program will be in effect from October 2011 to March 2012 and it is a program DHS hopes to continue yearly.
