Helping Students in Need
Book Fair Bucks
Children who have access to books and are read to consistently are more prepared for and more successful in school. Each year, the I Love to Read Book Fund puts age-appropriate books into the hands of Decatur students who would otherwise not have them. Started by the Decatur Business Association and now part of the Decatur Education Foundation, this program provides students with “Book Fair Bucks” so they can purchase books at the elementary school book fairs, build their home libraries and develop a lifelong love for reading.
Student Assistance
The Foundation provides assistance to the students and their families who are in need of immediate financial assistance for food, clothing, medicine, eye glasses, utility bills and/or any basic need that might affect a child’s ability to learn and be successful in school. This program is supported by the Mary Leila Honniker Student Assistance Fund named for a beloved City Schools of Decatur social worker.
